Abe Goorseky and Philipp Gabathuler started playing as “Good Buddy” after a chance encounter with a homeless blues man having breakfast at a street side café in Lynchburg, VA. He saddled up to the breakfast table without hesitation (or invitation) and introduced himself as Good Buddy. Inspired by his friendly smile and demeanor, the duo went home and wrote several train songs. Since then, Good Buddy has created a traditional sound where harmonies and stylistic playing will have you feelin’ like you’re rollin’ along the James River in an open Georgia Southern box car!
Jim Green, Jon Garner, Carlton Stell and Ricky Slaughter make up this locally based bluegrass quartet. Consisting of an upright bass, a banjo and guitar, among other instruments, they describe their sound as traditional bluegrass with some progressive tendencies and a little swing style.
